Who we are
Printly — Print & Scan (“Printly”, “the app”) is an iOS app published by Sibra (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy explains what information the app and this website handle, why, and the choices you have. If you have a question about it, write to [email protected].
The short version
- Your documents stay on your iPhone. Documents, photos, scans, drawings, text and web pages you print are prepared on your device and sent directly to your printer. We do not upload them to our servers.
- Contacts are read on your device only when you choose to print them, and are never uploaded.
- Some third-party services help us run the app: Apple for payments, RevenueCat for managing purchases, Google AdMob for ads, Google Firebase for configuration and app analytics, OneSignal for notifications and, if you connect it, Dropbox. They receive limited technical data, described below.
- You are in control of tracking. iOS asks your permission before any app-tracking for ads, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings.
- We don’t sell your documents, photos, scans or contacts.
What stays on your device
Printly works on your iPhone. The following content is processed locally and is not sent to us:
- Documents and files you open from the Files app or through the Share and Action extensions, including emails and attachments you send to Printly from other apps.
- Photos you take with the camera or pick from your photo library.
- Scans captured with the document scanner. Camera access is used only while you are scanning or taking a photo.
- Text and drawings you create in the app.
- Web pages you load to print. Pages are fetched directly from the website you enter, as in any browser.
- Contacts you select to print. They are read from your address book on the device and are not uploaded, stored by us or shared.
- Printer information. Discovery of AirPrint printers and the print job itself are handled by iOS on your local network.
When you send a print job, iOS transmits it from your iPhone to your printer. When you choose to share a file as a PDF, it goes only where you send it.
The catalog of printable templates is downloaded from our servers so new templates can be added without an app update. Downloading the catalog does not send your documents or personal content.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To scan documents and take photos to print | Only when you use the scanner or camera |
| Photos | To pick images to print | Only when you choose to import photos |
| Contacts | To print the contacts you select | Only when you use the Contacts tool |
| Notifications | To send occasional app notifications | Only if you allow it |
| App tracking (ATT) | To show personalized ads | Only if you allow it |
You can change any of these at any time in your iPhone’s Settings. Saying no only switches off the feature that needs it.
Third-party services
We use the following services. Each one receives only the data it needs to do its job, and each has its own privacy policy.
Apple
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card or payment details. Apple shares with us transaction information such as the product purchased and whether a subscription is active. See Apple’s privacy policy.
RevenueCat
RevenueCat manages in-app purchases and subscription status so the app knows whether you have Premium. It processes an anonymous app user ID, purchase and subscription history, device and app information (such as iOS version, app version, country and language) and IP address. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
Google AdMob
The free version of Printly shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device information, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, ad interactions and, only if you allow tracking, your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA). If you don’t allow tracking, ads are not personalized based on your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google’s privacy policy.
Google Firebase
We use Firebase, including Remote Config, to configure the app remotely (for example, to adjust settings or features without an update), to keep it stable, and to understand in aggregate how the app is used — such as which tools are opened and whether actions succeed. Firebase may process an app instance ID, device and app information, IP address and usage events. It does not receive the content of your documents. See Firebase privacy and security and Google’s privacy policy.
OneSignal
If you allow notifications, OneSignal delivers them. It processes a push token, a device identifier, device and app information, approximate location derived from IP, and whether notifications were opened. See OneSignal’s privacy policy.
Dropbox (optional)
If you choose to connect Dropbox, you sign in on Dropbox’s own page using secure authorization (OAuth with PKCE). Printly never sees your Dropbox password. The access token is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device, and Printly uses it only to list and download the files you choose to print. You can disconnect in the app at any time, and revoke access from your Dropbox account settings. See Dropbox’s privacy policy.
Advertising and tracking
Before any app tracking can happen, iOS shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you tap Allow, AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier to show ads that are more relevant to you and to measure them. If you tap Ask App Not to Track, the identifier is not available and ads are not personalized based on tracking. You can change this any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
Why we use information (legal bases)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the app and the features and purchases you choose, including restoring purchases.
- Consent — for personalized advertising with tracking, for push notifications and for connecting Dropbox. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings or in the app.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the app secure and working, to understand in aggregate how it is used so we can improve it, and to show non-personalized ads that fund the free version.
- Legal obligation — where we must keep records, for example for tax purposes relating to purchases.
How long data is kept
Content you print or scan is not stored by us. Data held by the third-party services above is kept according to their own retention policies; analytics data is kept in aggregate or for a limited period. Purchase records are kept for as long as needed to provide your purchases and meet legal requirements. If you contact us by email, we keep the conversation for as long as needed to help you.
International transfers
Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data from the EEA, UK or Switzerland is transferred, these providers rely on recognized safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of personal data about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Because we don’t operate user accounts and don’t receive your documents, we usually hold very little that can identify you. To make a request, email [email protected]. We may ask for information, such as a purchase receipt, to locate data linked to your device. For data held by the services above, you can also contact them directly.
California residents. We do not sell personal information for money. Allowing app tracking for personalized ads may count as “sharing” under California law; you can opt out at any time by turning tracking off in iOS Settings. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
Simple controls on your iPhone
- Turn off tracking: Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- Reset your advertising identifier or limit ads: Settings › Privacy & Security › Apple Advertising.
- Turn off notifications: Settings › Notifications › Printly.
- Remove access to camera, photos or contacts: Settings › Printly.
- Disconnect Dropbox in the app, or delete the app to remove everything stored on the device.
Children
Printly includes printable activities that parents and teachers can print for children, but the app itself is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will help remove it.
Security
Content stays on your device and is protected by iOS. Your Dropbox access token is stored in the iOS Keychain. Connections to our providers use encryption in transit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect the information we handle.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will let you know in the app or on this page.
